Scientific Name: The scientific name assigned to zebra finches is Taeniopygia guttata.


Physical Characteristics: Zebra finches are small birds, typically growing up to 4 inches in length and weighing around 10-12 grams on average. They have a distinct black and white striped pattern on their forehead and face, with a gray body, orange beak, and orange legs. Male zebra finches have brighter plumage than females, featuring orange cheek patches and black and white bars on their throat and breast.


Habitat: Native to Australia, zebra finches can be found in a variety of habitats including open grasslands, woodlands, and forests. They live in large flocks consisting of up to 100 individuals and are highly social birds that recognize members of their group through their unique songs.


Behavior: Zebra finches are active, playful, and curious birds known for their singing abilities. They thrive in pairs or small groups and can be kept as pets with relatively easy care requirements.
